sleepover turns into real life horror movie
Mar 26th
SIX boys cowered in the dark as a knife-wielding man threatened to kill them during a suburban sleepover from hell.
The group of mostly 12-year-olds yesterday told how their neighbour went on a rampage, screaming they “were going to die” and trying to batter down the door to their townhouse in the Brisbane suburb of Capalaba.
The three-hour ordeal ended only when Brett Hayes, 50, was shot in the groin by a policewoman after he allegedly lunged at her with six 30cm knives.
An investigation has been launched into the shooting as police defended their response to several frantic calls for help.
Deputy Commissioner Ross Barnett said police had visited the unit block “on a couple of occasions” earlier in the night, but were unable to find the source of a reported disturbance.
He brushed aside reports that police took more than an hour to respond to calls for assistance.
“On a busy Friday night, resources are stretched and priority is given to various jobs as they come in,” he said.
The sleepover was being held at the townhouse of a 14-year-old boy, who had invited school friends aged 12 to 14 over for the night.
Just before midnight, the boy said Hayes had knocked on the door and asked whether the boys wanted to take a walk with him.
Their refusal sparked a three-hour rampage, during which they cowered in the dark while Hayes threatened to break the door down.
The boy said Hayes returned many times during the three hours, smashing against the lower-floor glass door, pounding on windows and fences and screaming threats.
One boy said the scariest moment was sitting in the house with the lights off as Hayes scratched at the door and shouted to the boys that they “were going to die”.
As well as three calls to police, the boy also made a desperate phone call to his mother, who was working a late shift. She arrived shortly before the shooting.
Eyewitnesses say two female police officers ordered Hayes to return to his townhouse, a few doors down from the boy’s home. But onlookers watched in horror as Hayes allegedly rushed out of his home armed with knives, lashing at the officers.
One said he was just metres from one of the officers who shot Hayes in the leg just before 3am after he allegedly ignored three warnings, lunging at the officer with a blade within centimetres of her face.
The mother of one of the boys at the sleepover said her son was still trying to deal with the terrifying ordeal.
“They will have nightmares for ages,” she said. “You don’t want your 12-year-old around guns, knives and shootings.”
The mother said she was disappointed with the police response time.
No charges had been laid against Hayes, who spent last night in hospital.

Evesham river tragedy ‘like a horror movie’, says witness
Mar 18th
When Christopher Grady drove his car into the River Avon at Evesham with his petrified children inside, it was like a scene from “a horror movie”, a witness said.
Ryan and Gabrielle screamed as their 42-year-old father circled a field by the river before plunging into the freezing water, according to a dog walker and a cafe worker.
Grady was convicted of murdering Gabrielle, aged five, and attempting to murder his then six-year-old son Ryan.
Nicholas Langstone, who saw the incident unfold from a nearby cafe, said Grady put his “foot to the floor” and “just went faster and faster, straight down the edge of the riverbank into the river”.
He said: “The first thing I knew, I could hear the kids screaming in the car.
“There was somebody banging on the back window, I think it was a child… they were saying ‘Help me, help me’.”
Philippa Henley, who was walking her dog on the opposite side of the river, said she waved her arms and shouted in vain “Don’t do it” to Grady.
In a statement read to the court, the retired social worker said: “I could hear them (Ryan and Gabrielle) banging on the glass while they were going round the field and I could hear the fear in their voices.
“I was waving my arms and saying ‘Don’t do it’. It was like a horror movie.”
The court heard Grady and Ryan rose to the surface of the water a short time after the car began to sink, but Gabrielle, known as Gabby to family and friends, was pulled through the sunroof by specialist divers around two hours later.
She was pronounced dead in hospital on February 14, three days after the incident.
Julie Woodgate, a witness who was running along the riverbank, said she saw Grady surface and scream for help from the water.

Coen Brothers developing ‘full-on horror movie’
Feb 10th
Westerns and other stories that get right down to our soul are signature signs of movies from the wonderfully talented Coen Brothers. Their customary one film per year keeps us all anticipating just what they may do next.
Let this horror buff tell you that this little piece of news has him rather excited.
Ethan Coen recently told Empire that the brothers are possibly looking to get into the horror movie business and considering the semi-sad state the genre has been in lately, that’s a good thing.
“Funny you should ask, yes, we’re working on a couple scripts now, one of which it woiuld be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster.”
As Collider evidently pointed out, the part about Coen’s sister-in-law McDormand being the monster is obviously a joke, but the part about them writing a horror movie script is not.
True Grit. Burn After Reading. No Country For Old Men. The Ladykillers. The Big Lebowski. O Brother, Where Art Thou? Fargo.
That’s just a small handful of the wonderful films developed by the brothers and each one has its own small bit of fear instilled in it, but nothing that is “full-on horror” as Ethan Coen put it. Having seeing a number of lackluster and simply remade horror films over the past decade; a true fright flick developed by some of the best would be epic.

The Coen Brothers Might Be Making A Horror Movie Next
Feb 9th
The Coen brothers have dabbled a bit in horror movies, most notably in their films Blood Simple, Barton Fink and No Country For Old Men. These projects have some recognizable elements, including mentally unstable killers, forces of evil and an irrepressible sense of dread, but the Oscar winning siblings have never gone for a full on horror genre film. That may change soon.
The Coens recently revealed their future plans beyond True Grit to Empire and, somewhat surprisingly, revealed that one script they are writing has designs to scare the shit out of you. According to the directing pair, they’re currently working on a couple of projects, one of which, Ethan says, “would be fair to call a full-on horror movie.” Beyond that, the brothers also confirmed that their sequel to Barton Fink, titled Old Fink, is still in the works, but John Turturro isn’t yet old enough for them to go into production.
Quickly consider how great nearly every Coen brothers movie is. Now, take that idea and apply it to the thought of them purposely trying to make you fill your pants with excrement. Movie theaters across the country are going to need to start buying replacement cushions for their seats en masse.

The Coen Brothers Are Now Developing a ‘Full-On Horror Movie’?
February 9, 2011
Source: Empire
by Ethan Anderton
Though the Golden Globes may have snubbed Joel and Ethan Coen for their spectacular western True Grit, thankfully the Academy Awards came through with plenty of love for the film. Now it sounds like the Coen Brothers are already thinking about their next project. The writing/directing duo wrote the remake of Gambit, but clearly they’re not directing. Well, Empire asked the Coens if they would ever consider directing a straight-up horror film for their next project and Ethan said, “Funny you should ask, yes, we’re working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie.” Oh, really?
However, Ethan followed that statement by saying, “Frances McDormand is the monster.” Now, either he was joking completely about the concept of a horror movie, or just the bit about regular Coen Brothers collaborator Frances McDormand was the joke. However, the way Ethan said “one of which would be fair to call a full-on horror movie,” maybe that’s his way of saying they consider it a horror movie, but it’s not exactly a straight-up genre film. If that’s the case, McDormand could easily be “the monster” in some sort of strange way. Could she be some awful clerk at the DMV or perhaps something like a terrible mother-in-law? Seems a little too simple-minded for the Coen Brothers, but the thought of a horror film from them is certainly enticing. What do you think?

5 Best Korean Horror Movies 2008
Jan 27th
Are you curious about the five best Korean horror movies 2008? Here is an overview, arranged alphabetically by movie title. Sometimes called K-Horror, Korean horror movies are part of Korean cinema, the motion picture industries of North Korea and South Korea.
Korean horror movies feature themes and images similar to J-Horror, or Japanese horror films. Generally more than “blood and guts” slasher films, Korean horror movies usually focus on the suffering and misery of the characters.
Here are five of the best Korean horror movies of 2008. Produced in South Korea, they include a mix of thrillers, chillers and scary crime dramas.
- “The Chaser.” One of the best K-Horror movies of 2008 is “The Chaser,” a horrifying thriller originally titled “Chugyeogja.” The South Korean movie was inspired by the story of Yoo Young-chul, a real-life serial killer and self-confessed cannibal. The award-winning movie stars Yun-seok Kim, Jung-woo Ha and Yeong-hie Seo.
- “Death Bell.” “Death Bell” is a 2008 horror flick originally titled “Gosa.” It features South Korean actor Lee Beom-soo in his first horror film, and K-pop singer Nam Gyu-ri makes her acting debut in the film. Set in a Korean high school, the story centers on a group of elite students who face torture in a special class where students are killed in order of their rank.
- “The Game.” “The Game” (also known as “The Devil’s Game”) is a 2008 South Korean thriller originally titled “Deo ge-im.” The story centers on a struggling artist who bets his life against a dying old man and his money. The young man loses the bet and submits to a brain operation, only to discover a month later that the two men have swapped bodies. Ha-kyun Shin, Hie-bong Byeon and Hye-yeong Lee star in this Korean movie.
- “Loner.” “Loner” is a 2008 horror film originally titled “Woetoli,” translated “Orphaned.” The movie examines “hikikomori,” a Japanese term for reclusive people who withdraw from social life. This Korean psychological chiller stars Min-seo Chae, Lee Da-in and Yeong-suk Jeong.
- “Truck.” “Truck” is a 2008 South Korean thriller starring Yu Hae-jin, Jin Gu and Ji Su-Won. The story centers on a truck driver who falls prey to illegal gambling to pay for his daughter’s heart surgery. In order to save his own life, he promises to take care of body disposal for a dangerous mob. The movie features 80s-style slasher elements.

Slash Starts His Own Horror Movie Production Company!
Jan 26th

Wow!
We’d normally write this off as a crappy retread of Rob Zombie‘s transition into the genre, but it seems like he actually has some pretty inneresting ideas!
Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash recently announced that he plans to launch his own horror movie production company, which he’s calling Slasher Films, and he already has FOUR projects in the works!
Nothing To Fear will reportedly be about the real town of Stull, Kansas, which many believe to be the ‘gateway to hell,’ while Theorem tells the story of a mathetmatician who discovers the equation for evil. Meanwhile, there’s also Wake the Dead will be modern take on the Frankenstein story and focuses on a college student who learns how to animate dead tissue, and The Other Kingdom, which seems like a pretty by-the-books zombie flick!
Slash explains:
“What I want to do is bring back character-driven, dramatic, intelligent, humorous horror movies – horror movies that have some depth. Now it’s all about the sensationalism and shock value.”
Nice!
We definitely think that if done well, some of those flicks might actually be pretty good! AND scary!
We’re looking forward to seeing what you produce, bb!
Nothing’s more fun than a good horror flick!
What do U think?? Are U excited for Slash’s new production company??

Ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash launches horror film company
Jan 25th
Slash has created a horror movie production company called Slasher Films, and already has four movies in the pipeline.
The legendary guitarist is best known for his work with bands Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, but has decided to try something new. He announced his plans at the ongoing Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, revealing the genre is something he’s always been enthralled by.
“Ever since I can remember I’ve been raised on horror movies,” he told RadarOnline.com.
Among the projects the company is working on is a remake of Wake the Dead, which itself is based on the classic tale of Frankenstein. Theorem sees an expert in maths work out an equation for evil, while The Other Kingdom is a zombie movie.
Slash explained he plans to take inspiration from the old-school horror movies of the 70s and early 80s – revealing he thinks such releases took a nosedive in the late 80s when they became too gory and over-the-top. He is making a picture called Nothing to Fear, about a religious family who become involved with a demon, which he calls “heavy duty”, adding he hopes to create films which will make people think.
“My whole thing is to go back to the days of making very dramatic, serious, plot-driven, character-driven horror movies, as opposed to what’s become the norm this day,” he explained. “Chop ‘em up kind of movies that don’t have real specific characters that you really care anything about.”
The 45-year-old isn’t leaving his past career behind totally though, as he will help create the music featured during the movies.

UNAWARE (2010) UFO Sci-Fi Horror Film Catches Movie Fans and Hollywood Off-Guard
Dec 14th
Dallas, TX, December 13, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio / PRWEB) A controversial new feature entitled “Unaware” has emerged from hiding, catching movie fans and Hollywood studios off-guard. Although the official trailer was unveiled in October, publicity did not accelerate until earlier last week, when movie sites like Dread Central and Bloody-Disgusting energetically identified the project in the latest “found-footage” trend.
The indie project has already been compared to other popular flicks of the genre; however, its producers are vehemently refuting claims that it is just another “mockumentary,” referring to box office champions “The Blair Witch Project” and Oren Peli’s “Paranormal Activity“. Others speculate if this is similar in theme to Steven Spielberg’s extraterrestrial and UFO films of the 1970s and 80s, but the producers have not commented on that idea.
“Unaware” is the first collaborative effort between Sean Bardin and Robert Cooley, who previously met through eBay. The film was produced under Cooley Productions, Inc., a production company that was founded by Mr. Cooley in 2000.
Mr. Bardin and Mr. Cooley recently announced that several major motion picture companies had contacted them with interests to market and distribute the film, indicating that a theatrical release may be coming soon. Since its completion in August 2010, “Unaware” has already grabbed awards in the Accolade Competition, California Film Awards, and Los Angeles Movie Awards, respectively. It also premiered at a film festival in November, where it received critical acclaim from the panel of judges and the audience. It is expected to enter more festivals throughout 2011. When asked about a timeline for the theatrical release, the producers replied, “As soon as possible.” Fans have been buzzing with excitement in anticipation for this feature film.
According to the official IMDb page, the film is an edited version of uncensored footage that was captured during a young couple’s vacation to rural Texas in July 2010. The producers have neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the footage, citing intentions to let the audience decide. Additional production details of this horror/sci-fi project have also yet to be released.
The feature is currently in the film festival circuit through May 2011, though the producers have stated that it may be pulled sooner, in the event that they strike a deal with a major distributor. Both producers have expressed optimism about securing a contract. Among high-concept films like TWC’s “Apollo 18″ and Paramount’s “Area 51″, the theatrical market is ripe for this kind of project.
“Unaware” now has official profiles on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Eventful, and even MySpace. Interested readers can find out more information at http://www.unawarefootage.com. The website can also be accessed from most mobile devices, including the Android, iPad, and iPhone. The production team welcomes any feedback or inquiries, but email contact is preferred.

Gillian: Show was like horror movie
Dec 7th
Gillian McKeith has admitted she was embarrassed by fainting on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, describing the show as being “like a horror movie that never ended”.
The 51-year-old nutritionist said she had never watched the hit ITV1 show before because of her phobia of insects.
She told Heat magazine: “It was like a horror movie that never ended. People are looking for this incredible explanation and I really don’t have one. I liked the idea of going to Australia and thought I’d get a bit of a holiday.”
She went on: “There’s no doubt that I didn’t completely understand what I was getting myself into. I thought it would be an interesting way of challenging myself. When I finally realised what I was facing, I was absolutely mortified.”
She also defended herself against claims she faked her fainting episode when she collapsed after being chosen to take part in a bushtucker trial.
Gillian, who struggled to deal with life in the jungle, said she had “a history of fainting”.
She said: “The first time I fainted – and it sounds quite hilarious – was when I got very excited because I thought I saw Santa Claus. All I can say to people is that I’ve got scoliosis, and there’s no way in a million years I can risk banging my back. I’ve probably fainted 12 to 15 times in my life. It has to be something pretty intense.
“The whole thing was an embarrassment. The worst thing was fainting on TV – I can hardly bear it.”
